ALUMNI CONFERENCE AND PERFORMANCES

At the invitation of Friends of Dance co-Presidents, Judith Chazin-Bennahum and Kathie Anthony, Mr. Evans performs in the first-ever UNM Dance Alumni Concert and appears on a panel, Creating a Career in Dance. Evans was a full professor at UNM for 16 years and became the first distinguished emeritus professor of dance in 2004.

BILL EVANS AT THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF THE NATIONAL DANCE EDUCATION ORGANIZATION
PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOPS, PANEL, MASTER CLASS AND PERFORMANCE
LaJolla, California
October 4-7, 2018
Mr. Evans co-presents an ISMETA pre-conference workshop on somatic-based dance education and conduct his own pre-conference workshop called Passing on the Legacy, in which he guides the development of a new choreographic work to an original musical composition by Alan Terriciano. The work, And Still She Persisted, will be performed in a gathering of all conferees on the concluding evening of the conference. Mr. Evans also performs a rhythm tap solo on that occasion. Evans also presents a master class, Honoring Personal Uniqueness in Dance Technique, and speaks on a panel on Social and Emotional Learning with three leaders of ISMETA (the International Somatic Movement Education and Therapy Association). He also attends a discussion on the documentation of Evans Pedagogy conducted by Melissa Hauschild-Mork, Kelly Ferris Lester, Denise Purvis, Heather Roffe, Adrienne Wilson and Courtney World, all Certified Evans Teachers.

BILL EVANS AT IDAHO STATE UNIVERSITY
CHOREOGRAPHIC, TEACHING AND PERFORMING RESIDENCY
Pocatello, Idaho
October 8-20, 2018
At the invitation of Kathy Diehl, director of dance, Mr. Evans re-stages his work Sassy’s Blues and creates a new work, Hoodoo, both for ISU dance majors. He also teaches a variety of technique classes in modern dance and tap dance and several classes in Bartenieff Fundamentals. On October 12, he performs for and speaks to all ISU Theatre and Dance majors and faculty. On October 13, he teaches a day-long workshop for dancers from throughout southern Idaho and western Wyoming, including classes in Bartenieff Fundamentals, Evans dance technique, rhythm tap and repertory.
Both Evans works will be performed in ISU’s December dance program concerts.

In tours of the western states, RDT performs Evans’ 2015 work, Crippled Up Blues and Other Tales of Deseret, which he created to celebrate the company’s 50 th anniversary, in collaboration with the 3hattrio.

At the invitation of Mark Borschelt, associate professor, Mr. Evans reconstructs his work Passionsong for the UVU Repertory Ballet Ensemble. He also teaches a variety of dance technique and Bartenieff Fundamentals classes, to students from throughout the department. Passionsong will be performed in RBE’s spring semester 2019 concerts.

BALLET PERFORMANCE AND AWARD CEREMONY

Mr. Evans will be publicly acknowledged by artistic director Jacqueline Colledge, who has restaged a ballet that will be performed in his honor. Jackie was Evans’ student in the Bill Evans School of Dance, Lehi, Utah, in the early 1960s. That was the beginning of her stellar career as a dancer, company director and choreographer. She is truly a Utah Valley dance legend.

BILL EVANS AT THE SCHOOL OF CONTEMPORARY DANCERS

At the invitation of Faye Thomson, co-director of the SCD Senior Professional Program, Evans will teach and choreograph in the annual May Intensive, as he has done for more than two decades. He will offer a daily technique class for SCDSPP students and selected Winnipeg professional dancers, as well as a daily class in applied kinesiology. He will create a new work for some dancers in the Senior Professional Program’s annual December shows. Winnipeg dance artist, and long-time Evans associate, Jolene Bailie will reconstruct an Evans work for other students to be performed in the same concert series. There will an open showing of the two new works, plus performance by Evans, on Friday afternoon, May 31.

At the invitation of Tina Kambour and Michelle Moeller, Evans and Halquist return to one of their favorite places, UCO, to participate in an intensive 5-day workshop. Courses will include Somatic Lab, Evans Dance Technique, Evans Repertory, Evans Pedagogy and Rhythm Tap Dance. Evans and Halquist will also create or restage works for members of the Kaleidoscope Dancers. There will be an open showing on Friday, June 7, 4-5 pm.

Stay in a farmhouse on beautiful Lake Cumberland and immerse yourself in somatic dance for three full days!

Registration fee: $300, if paid on or before May 1. $350 after May 1.

A limited number of rooms are available in a beautiful home on Lake Cumberland, with a lap pool and expansive grounds and views. Two doubles with twin beds; one queen on 2 nd floor; a large lower level room with double bed and twin bed; all with shared bathrooms. Housing at the farm: $100 for 3 nights per room.

Lake Cumberland State Resort Park https://parks.ky.gov/parks/resortparks/lake-cumberland also has two lodges and cottages available.

Classes will be at ArtWorks Community Arts Education Center in Jamestown. Woodland Farm and Lake Cumberland State Park are both a short drive away. 
Jamestown is about a 2 ½ hour drive from Nashville International Airport or Louisville International Airport and less than 2 hours from the Lexington Airport.
Participants will need to drive or carpool with another dancer.
