Don Halquist and Leanne Rinelli, of the
internationally-acclaimed Bill Evans Dance Company
(dancing Evans’ modern Tango), Danny Lopa,
renowned Rochester jazz bassist, and Tamara
Wilcox, pianist and director of music in the
Department of Dance at The College at Brockport.

Evans will conduct a day-long workshop for
selected students from colleges and universities
on Thursday, October 20.
The workshop will result in a new work,
created in collaboration with musician/composer
Alan Terricciano, that will be performed at the
conference’s culminating gathering, Saturday,
October 22, 5:30 p.m.
On October 22, from 12:15 to 1:30, he will
teach a modern dance technique class open to all
conference participants.

Evans will once again direct the New Dancers
Showcase, which he founded in 2004, during his
first year on the faculty of The College at
Brockport. His
assistant director is MFA candidate Falon Baltzell.
Fifty-three new dance majors will perform
works created by MFA and MA candidates and Vanessa
Van Wormer, adjunct instructor.
Admission is free.

Evans Dance will join four other Rochester-based
contemporary dance companies—BIODANCE,
FuturPointe, Geomantics Dance Theatre and PUSH
Physical Theatre—in five performances curated by
New York City-based dance writer Elizabeth Zimmer.
Evans’ contributions will be
“Colony,” a modern dance piece for eight
dancers and “Winterhythms,” rhythm tap and
live jazz vocals.

During this annual two-week residency, Evans
and Halquist will teach courses in Evans modern
dance technique—intermediate and
advanced/professional levels, applied kinesiology
and Evans repertory.
Evans will create a new work and Halquist
will re-stage an existing Evans work.
The residency will culminate in a
performance of the new and re-staged works, a solo
by Evans and possibly a re-staged Evans duet
performed by Halquist and renowned solo artist
Winnipeg artist Jolene Bailie.
