SCHOOL of CONTEMPORARY DANCERS

During this annual
two-week residency, Evans and Halquist will teach courses in
Evans modern dance technique, intermediate and
advanced/professional levels, applied kinesiology and Evans
repertory. Evans
will create a new work and Halquist will re-stage an Evans
work. The
residency will culminate in an informal performance of the new
and re-staged works, a solo by Evans and a re-staged duet
performed by Halquist and Winnipeg artist Jolene Bailie.
A separate, formal performance of portions of BILL
EVANS 70! (April
10 and 11 above) is a possibility.

The Evans Dance Company will join Lehrer Dance and
Configurations in Dance in an evening of professional dance by
leading western New York professional companies, co-presented
by the UB Center for the Arts in its beautiful main stage
theatre. Evans plans to present his modern dance piece for
eight women, Velorio,
to music by Gabriel Fauré, as well as a solo performed by Don
Halquist.

LEGACY

The Bill Evans Dance Company (founded in 1975) will present
its third annual Rochester production.
Program will include Evans’ masterpiece, The
Legacy, based on the life of his great-great-grandfather
Abel Evans, a Mormon polygamist who was born in Wales,
emigrated to Utah and established a household with three wives
of varying ages. Also
included will be reconstructions of other Evans works, Diverse
Concerto and Naturescape
Unfolding, as well as a new work for an all-male ensemble.

As he did in New York City in the 2009 conference, Bill
Evans will direct the Passing
on the Legacy workshop for selected college and high
school dance students. The
workshop will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on
October 23. During
this session, Mr. Evans will facilitate the creation of a new
choreographic work, which will be performed at a general
session from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. on that same day.
